Family Matters. June 13, 2016
Hello all,
There is much to share from Guatemala, things we're excited to share, but we'll save that for another email. This week we are in Michigan--Alaina's dear grandma is in poor health, and it is the best thing for us to spend some time with her right now. It's a rich, meaningful, and difficult time for Alaina especially. We cherish your prayers for her. As much as we'd love to be "heroes" and stay in Guatemala regardless of what happens, this is much more important than that. We'd love to see all of you who we love in Michigan, but this is valuable time to spend with Grandma, so thanks for understanding.
We're reminded of the beauty of the beach, flat land, unlocked cars, open space, close family, and good food. We see the hurt Americans endure too in poor international soccer performance, difficult politics, and senseless shootings, We're thankful for our family who was able to fly us home for this! We already miss our friends and places in Guatemala, and will be back there on the 19th!
Meanwhile, here's some recent writings and things about our recent life in Guatemala.
Article: What Do You Really Think of Us?: The Story of Sigo Vivo
Blog: Meditating on What It Means: A Reflection on "Hidden"
Pictures of Late: Look at Them Here.
We're so thankful for you. In hope and peace in Christ,
AJ & Alaina
p.s. Things We're into Lately
-Events: AJ's brother getting engaged, and getting posted to London next year, congrats!!
-Cohabitants: Craig, a med student from Tennessee, will be living with us for 2 months while he works at the public hospital in Guatemala City.
-Podcasts: Radiolab - always a fave, but of particular interest lately.
-Food: Rhubarb Crisp. Didn't last 2 days in Michigan without it.
-Visitors: Papa Westy, Devi, and Momma Antuma!
-Regions: Baja Verapaz. Alaina went on a medical trip for a week to this mountainous, Achi-speaking piece of Guate.
